Wine Availability
The 2010 Tempranillo and 2010 Chardonnay are now available. The 2010 vintage was an exciting one in this part of the world for those who had modest crop levels. Good winter rainfall in 2009 was followed by unseasonably high spring temperatures. Summer 2010 was warm and dry but without the scorching extremes that we had seen in 2008 and 2009, perfect conditions for great aromatics and colour. Our small crops meant that we began picking Chardonnay on the 6th of February and Tempranillo the following week.
The 2010 Chardonnay shows juicy nectarine, lime leaf and fragrant white flowers with a delicate leatherwood honey note. Oatmeal, aniseed and nutty characters are forefront, with matchstick and flint stone aromas subtly present. The palate is refined, underpinned by spicy oak and soft limey acidity. In many ways it is similar to the 2008 vintage (which incidentally, is really starting to come together beautifully now if you haven't looked at it for a while) showing ripe stone fruit and some toasty, mealy complexity. It is certainly a more forward style than the 2009 Chardonnay - which is still looking very closed, but will really shine in three to five years time. The 2010 Chardonnay sits somewhere in between the two; a little less "out there" than the 2008 but richer and more honeyed than the austere 2009.
The 2010 Tempranillo is to my mind, the best we have made. The favourable vintage conditions delivered impeccable fruit with beautiful colour and fragrance and great natural acid balance. It is a deeply fragrant wine, with briary savoury characters and assertive tannins. It opens with compelling black cherry, floral and liquorice aromas with meaty undertones and a herbal lift. Brambly dark fruits and earthy flavours are laced with chewy, tongue coating tannins which will develop and soften with time.
We are out of stock of the 2009 Shiraz.
The 2010 Shiraz will be out in Winter 2012.
